The Sumerians called the Capricorn star sign the goat-fish and this, later on, became the inspiration for the Greek god Pan. Pan turned into a half-fish half-goat creature when he was being pursued by the monster Typhon and as he leaped into a stream to get away from him, half his body turned into a fish while the other half remained a goat.
 
It is the tenth sign in the zodiac and governs from about 22nd December to the 19th of January. It is known as the 'Gate of the Gods' and is said that the souls of the dead pass through the sign of Capricorn.
