The Purple Colour

Purple relates to royal purple as past healers and mystics were called to the royal court. Because of this, purple symbolises magick, royalty, wealth, nobility, wisdom, devotion and mystery. 
It is a deeply spiritual colour. There is the story of Hercules who was on his way to romance a nymph, with his dog walking along the seashore. His dog played with a mollusc and it stained its nose purple. The nymph saw the colour and was so moved by it, that she requested a garment made of the same colour.
It took many of these molluscs to make enough purple dye for a garment, therefore it was expensive and revered.  Wearing this colour was legally reserved only for significant people in the community. 
It wasn't until 1856, an 18-year-old chemist while working on a cure for malaria, discovered a residue that was similar to the colour the molluscs naturally create.
The chemist trademarked it and now we have many shades of purple widely available. Yet still, the symbolism associated with this colour remains deep in our psyche.
